Here We Go With RIP IX (9 really??)

As I wrote yesterday, I am SO thrilled that it's RIP time again. I look forward to Carl's announcing the RIP challenge every year and this year maybe more so than ever! It's a wonderful reminder that Fall is on the way. That soon the air will turn crisp, that nights will have a feeling of mystery to them, and I always feel so rejuvenated with that change in the seasons. I cannot BELIEVE that this is the 9th RIP challenge...the 8th that I'm participating in. I started blogging right after the first RIP Challenge. I'm doing Peril the First as usual this year which is to read 4 books that fit into the challenge theme. Here's my stack of books for the next two months (which I'll likely add to) and I'm excited about each and every one of them:

  • The Farm by Tom Rob Smith - I've already started this one and it's a great psychological thriller!
  • White is For Witching by Helen Oyeyemi - I loved her writing SO MUCH in Boy, Snow, Bird despite the disappointing ending of that book...hopefully this one has no disappointments
  • The October Country by Ray Bradbury - October. Bradbury. Nuff said.
  • The Last Policeman by Ben Winters - Pretty sure I saw Kristen talk about this book and it sounds REALLY good! Love the cover to this one too.
  • The Girl With All The Gifts by M.R. Carey - Been saving this one for a few months now. Another cover I love
  • The Face of Death by Cody McFadyen - Sequel to Shadow Man, one of my favs.
  • One For Sorrow by Christopher Barzak - I still can't believe I haven't read this one yet. Movie version just came out too but I want to read the book before I see it.
  • Some Kind of Fairy Tale by Graham Joyce - Can't believe I haven't read any Graham Joyce yet either! Looking forward to this one!
  • Deathless by Catherynne M. Valente
  • Wings to the Kingdom by Cherie Priest - Sequel to Four and Twenty Blackbirds
  • The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith - AKA JK Rowling. I've read a lot of very mixed reviews of this one but I miss Rowling so much :(
  • All the Birds, Singing by Evie Wyld - Love this cover and it seems like a quick, good read
  • Doll Bones by Holly Black - Why haven't I read this yet??
  • Sister by Rosamund Lupton - Another I've read mixed reviews of.
  • Come Closer by Sara Gruen
  • Tales of Terror From the Black Ship by Chris Priestley - Love these!
  • Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie - I started this one about a year ago and really enjoyed it but never finished it...time to finish it.
  • The Uninvited by Tim Wynne-Jones - Had this one forever, time to read it.
That's enough for now! Like I said...more to be added probably :p What are you reading?

Looks like such an awesome pile! The only one I've actually read is the Cody McFayden, which you know I loved. You know how brutal that series is, so I don't have to warn you. Rich definitely enjoyed The Cuckoo's Calling, but wasn't head over heels in love. Okay, you know what really made me smile--while I have several short story collections that fit RIP, The October Country is the one I pulled out yesterday for RIP! I so love how often that kind of thing happens with us. :D So wish you were going to be here visiting for Dewey's Read-a-thon this time--RIP and read-a-thon, gah, that would just be such a perfect time to spend together, wouldn't it? Sooooo hoping you love every second of your RIP reading, and every second of autumn period!!!

It is hard to believe it has been nine years already. Doesn't seem like it could be possible that I'm fast approaching my 10 year blogging anniversary. Wild!

I am thinking of picking up that same version of October Country and reading it in...well, October, of course. I love the cover and enjoy Bradbury's writing so much. I've almost bought this book I don't know how many times already. Seeing it here is pushing me over that edge.

I've also been wanting to re-read the "Tales of Terror" books. They are such great fun, especially to read aloud to others.

Love that you have been a part of this since nearly the beginning, Chris.

And while here I must add, "Go Saints!"

The only one of those I've read is Tales of Terror from the Black Ship which I absolutely love. All three of those CP books are excellent. An interesting pile you have there, look forward to seeing what you read, Chris!

Is it really that time? It's my dream to do RIP and not fail out of it. Maybe this year?

Ooooh Hallowe'en Party! I love Agatha Christie :D

Yep, I'm the evangelist for The Last Policeman! You're going to have to get the next two books soon after though ... just warning you! ;)
I keep meaning to get some Chris Priestley. I don't know why I never do. Nevermind. Yes, I do. There's not enough time!! Hehe.

The Last Policeman is a fun read! That reminds me that I have yet to read the next book in the series. The other books in your stack sound fantastic. Happy RIP-ing!

The Girl with All the Gifts!!! Please please please read that one!

And sort of off topic, but not really, because it fits the RIP theme, but did you get the email about ZOMBIE POPPETS?!?

That is one gorgeous stack of books. Hope you have a great time with the RIP. It's my favorite challenge, too, although I just quietly join in by reading a couple books on my own. Love the way the RIP ushers in fall.

The Last Policeman series is loads of fun and has a terrific ending. Do you have a copy of the second book in the series? If not, I'll send you one. I've got an extra ARC.

Such a great list!! I hope you like White Is for Witching. It's maybe a little less technically deft than Boy, Snow, Bird, but it doesn't have that awful ending AND it is about a haunted (ish) house, which I love. It's my true favorite of her books.

And Doll Bones, very much on my list too. That would be a good RIP read for me. I should get on that.

Completely forgot to mention that I was impressed with All the Birds, Singing. One of my favorites of the year. It's harsh and raw but such amazing writing. Also, glad you're back to blogging!

I haven't read any of these, but I really want to get to both DOLL BONES and THE GIRL WITH ALL THE GIFTS. I hope you get to all of your books and that they're all wonderful :)

I don't remember being angry about anything in White is for Witching (unlike the ending of Boy Snow Bird: just ugh), so I think you'll be safe there! It's been a few years since I've read it though.

I haven't even *heard* of most of the books on your list, so you totally need to read them all & report back re: which ones are fabulous. :)

I keep seeing A Cuckoos Calling on people's piles for this challenge, I've been meaning to finally get around to it. I'm hoping that I can get to one full length novel for this challenge so I may make it that book.
