That Wonderful Amy and Her Fall Survey

Amy always has such fantastic ideas! I've been trying to rise up out of my blogging funk lately and I stumbled upon a Fall survey that she posted over on her blog. Since Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year, it put quite the smile on my face :) So thanks for that, Amy! Here's the survey with my answers....I'd love to see yours too!

1) What's the first thing that makes you feel like summer is over and fall has arrived?

Well, it hasn't quite happened yet here in southern Louisiana, but it's that first day of temperatures below 80 degrees and more importantly the LACK of humidity in the air. You can just feel Fall. I can drink all the pumpkin spice lattes and put up all of the Halloween decorations that I want, but it doesn't really feel like fall until it ACTUALLY feels like fall. My meteorologist assures me that as of Monday it will feel like fall! I hope she's right!!

2) What's your favorite fall fragrance or flavor?

Mmm...anything with cinnamon, cloves, or pumpkin flavor. In fact, I've just made myself a cup of Harney and Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice tea which Debi introduced me to years ago and it's since become my absolute favorite tea, just as much for it's smell as it's taste.

3) Favorite fall goodie?

Pumpkin spice lattes from Starbucks! Yes, I know...predictable, but I really do wait all year for them to come back "in season". They really need to just leave them on the menu all year long. Pecan pie...I HATED pecan pie as a kid...without ever tasting it :p And then once I had that first slice there was just no turning back. And candy corn. Lots and lots of candy corn.

4) Do have any fun fallish outings or traditions? (i.e. apple picking, looking at leaves etc.) If not is there something you've always wanted to do?

Hmm...Nothing in particular that comes to mind. When we were kids, me and my sister used to LOVE making Halloween decorations..homemade of course :p You know, ghosts made out of tissues, cutting witches and bats and the like out of construction paper, hanging long strips of paper in our doorways. As soon as the weather changed it became time to decorate for halloween. I'm sure that our mom loved our very classy decorations that took over the house :p I just love spending time outdoors during the Fall...it's refreshing! Oooh, there is the renaissance festival down here during Fall! I do love that :)

5) Football or Baseball postseason?

Football 100%! I'm not a big baseball fan unless I'm watching it in person and we don't have a pro league here. I just get so bored watching it on TV. But I absolutely love football season. Especially once the weather changes. That's when it really feels like football season!

6) Halloween or Thanksgiving?

Halloween 100% Because it's a whole season to me. Thanksgiving is a one day thing, and I do enjoy that too even though I normally have to work for Thanksgiving. But the day spent with family and the food is delicious!

7) What's your favorite spooky monster?

Can I just say Michael Meyers even though he's not a traditional spooky monster? I say that because every year I obsessively watch the Halloween movies...they're my all time favorites!

8) Do you have a favorite quote about fall from a book or movie?

“First of all, it was October, a rare month for boys.” - Ray Bradbury, Something Wicked This Way Comes....really, that whole book.

9) If you could go anywhere for a weekend trip during the season where would it be?

Somewhere, ANYWHERE, where I could see REAL fall! I've never seen a real one before. Here in New Orleans, we pretty much go from Summer to Winter as far as what the weather LOOKS like. And by that I mean that one day the trees have leaves and the next they don't. We don't get those gorgeous fall leaves changing colors. I've always wanted to see that.

10) Describe your ideal fall day.

Ah...A nice, crisp day where I can wear a sweater and maybe even a scarf....I start the day by going to pick up a pumpkin spice latte, maybe walk around the park and just enjoy the air and then read outside for awhile, one of my absolute FAVORITE things to do during the fall since it's so rare to be able to read outside for any long period of time here in New Orleans. Come inside to homemade gumbo which is absolutely perfect during the Fall, maybe watch a Saints game with the family...finish the night curled up with a blanket watching horror movies and then fall asleep reading some more :)

I love your Ideal Fall Day! We both need to go to South Carolina to the Smokey Mountains !!!!! It's one of the few dreams I have left... (but to be honest I'd rather go in spring when it's all green lol).. but I do really miss walking in fallen leaves and hearing them crunch! and I have to be dressed in jeans and a SWEATSHIRT! (something I rarely get to wear)

So fun reading your answers, Chris. What is it about Fall that thrills us all so much? I'm not such a fan of Starbucks' Pumpkin Soice lattes, they taste a bit gritty to me somehow. I recall with longing their Mocha Valencia's, though, which were chocolate and orange. Those should be on the list forever! My first husband loved pecan pie, and I would make him chocolate pecan pie this time of year. Such memories of our lives, it's good to pull out our joys and relish them. xo

I know what you mean about it having to FEEL like fall. The mornings out here in SoCal feel so good! It's nice and cool before warming up to much hotter weather.

My favorite fall goodie is pumpkin muffins. Have you had them?

Waiting for fall. Waiting. Waiting. Waiting.

In the meantime . . . my favorite fall *ever* was the one we spent in Michigan, where school kids take field trips to the apple farm for apple cider, fresh doughnuts and the chance to pick out a pumpkin directly from the field. Best experience, ever. That's my ideal and I would happily move back to Michigan, if only for the annual trip to the apple farm.

I think Kiddo is going to the Renaissance Festival with his girlfriend. They went early in their dating life (2 or 3 years ago) and it's his favorite memory from their time as a couple so she wants to go for a repeat. Maybe I should go in 2014 and we could meet up there? That would be a fun way to place to hang out together.

I remember the year I went to Spain in October, I didn't even realize that I would be missing fall until I got home and all the leaves were already off the trees and the air was cold, not cool. And I was heartbroken! Where I lived in Spain was very arid and there were lime trees and I was going to the beach probably through the end of the third week of October, which was nice in its own way, but it wasn't fall. I hope you get to come visit the east coast and see a fall!! :)

I also love the pumpkin spice lattes and Halloween and PECAN PIE. All I have wanted is pecan pie. ALL I WANT. Talk about a craving.

I've been loving this survey! I don't watch a lot of sports on TV, but we love the baseball play-off and then the Series

Ooooh, I like the sound of your fall day. Except for the pumpkin spice latte. FInally tried one of those a couple weeks ago, but didn't much care for it. But then they made me a pumpkin spice chai tea latte--OMG, now that I LOVED! Oh man, and the smell of that cinnamon tea--I am so with you on that! I swear I could just sit there with my nose stuck in a tin of that all day long! :P Totally with you on the football too! We've been without TV for a while now, but the start of football season has been the first I've really missed it. :( Okay, I should probably shut up now, instead of filling up your comment box with more of my rambling. :)

Your perfect day is essentially identical to mine. In fact I just had one of those! Well, not the crisp weather, and I ended the day by having to fly back to New York (boo). But there was outside time, and the weather wasn't bad, and there was gumbo and Saints game.
