It was a nice, laid back day, spent doing all of the things that I love to do! We started off by going to my local indie book store, Octavia Books, where I picked up a signed copy of David Levithan and Andrea Cremer's new book, Invisibility and Audrey Niffenegger's new book, Raven Girl, which I will be reading tonight! After that, we went to Scriptura which is one of my favorite local stores. It sells stationery, specialty notebooks, fountain pens, writing pads, and all sorts of other goods. I ended up only leaving with three ink refills for my favorite pen, but lots added to my wish list ;) From there we went and got coffee at my favorite coffee shop where the pictures above were taken and then went to a different part of the city.
After hitting up a modern furniture store, we crossed the street to go to a neat little local thrift shop. A guy passed us riding his bike and my little brother, Austin, says "that's the guy that played Gollum!" To which I responded, "no, Austin, that is not Andy Serkis." So, the guy ends up in the thrift store with us and at closer view I begin thinking that IS Andy Serkis! But I told Austin to leave him alone. But of course that didn't stop him and he went up to him anyway and asked him if he was indeed Andy Serkis. And he was. He's down here filming the next Planet of the Apes movie and it's the first time he's ever been in New Orleans. He was so super friendly and super approachable. Austin wanted a picture with him and I took one with him too especially for Pat, because I know how much she loves him which I told him and he said to tell Pat hello :)
Definitely not something that happens every birthday! So after a few more stops around the city, we finally headed back home and then went out to eat at buffalo wildwings with my dad which was fun :) Then came home for cake and presents and I got some really awesome stuff :)
Tomorrow will be a fun day too! We're spending the day with my mom and her mom (my gram) going out to eat and going to the casino! Happy mothers day to all of you amazing mom's out there too!!!! Hope you all have an especially wonderful day!
Saturday Farmer's Market will be back next Saturday and hopefully some book reviews will finally be up soon too!

Happy Birthday (again! lol) of course I am super happy you met Andy..I was thrilled for him when I found out Peter Jackson let him do some directing on the Hobbit! I think his career is pretty much set for him now and I am happy for him!! But it was his lucky day to meet YOU on your birthday!!!

Happy birthday, Chris! It sounds like you had a wonderful, awesome day, perfect for you. New books and meeting Andy Serkis! I had to show my daughter your picture, she thinks Gollum is awesomely creepy, so she enjoyed seeing the actor in real life. What a fun thing to happen on your birthday!
That's really cool Chris! Happy birthday and I'm glad you had a great day.
Happy Birthday, sweet friend! I'm so glad you had a lovely day! And how COOL to meet Andy Serkis!!!
And OMG I can't wait to get my hands on Raven Girl.
Okay, before I squeal over Gollum, HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHRIS! Seriously, it sounds like you had an amazing day even without meeting Gollum. :) That is pretty cool to top it off that way though.
Happy Birthday my friend!
I find it absolutely hilarious that you ran into Gollum on your birthday. Sounds like it was a great day! Happy birthday!
A very happy belated birthday, Chris!!! And how cool to run into a celeb out and about!
What a wonderful day! And such a fun surprise to meet Andy Serkis. Happy birthday! I've found the 30s to be WAY better than my 20s.
Ack, I know I read this but it looks like I didn't succeed at posting. Love the pics! So cool that Andy Serkis was friendly and posed with you. Amy Grant was on the plane from London to Atlanta with us (with her band). She flew coach and I was too shy to go say anything to her but she seemed friendly enough to the one person I saw approach her.
