Bad Bloggers Time

I can't seem to actually finish a book these days, hence the lack of posts over here, so instead I'll just talk about all of the books that I'm bringing into the house and NOT reading. In my defense, a lot of shit is going on. It's the holidays and I go into full on panic mode during the holidays. But it's a panic I enjoy in a sick and twisted way. It's a time of trying to find just the right thing for everyone and then making sure it gets to them on time. And now I have my OWN apartment that I get to decorate!! Which I haven't done anymore of since the last post on the blog but I'd really like to. Maybe some of that will get done tomorrow.

I have an ACTUAL day off of work tomorrow!! It feels like it's been months since I've had a day off of work, but it's actually only been five days. It's just been a crazy week at work. Literally nonstop. And I have a lot going on personally so my mind is just running non stop these days. I have to start remembering to make time for myself to read  and relax though..the things I enjoy. That's what I did last night and it was nice. I spent last night on the sofa alternating reading a chapter of a book and playing Songpop on my iPhone. Yep...that's my idea of an exciting night :p

Anyway, lets get to those books that have come in:

1. The Tiny Book of Tiny Stories Volume 2 edited by Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Wirrow - I preordered this one as soon as I saw that it was being made after loving the first volume so much. I ended up liking this one just as much :) This is just such a neat idea for a collection and it's a little collection that you can breeze through in a half an hour or spend hours with...really enjoyed it. (Bought it)

2. Billie Standish Was Here by Nancy Crocker - Honestly I can't remember where I heard about this book :/ It's been on my paperback swap wishlist forever though! And my turn finally came up, so I have it now! (Paperback Swap)

3. Kissing the Beehive by Jonathan Carroll - Yep...another Jonathan Carroll. I've been wanting to just get all of his books really, so it was a nice surprise when Paperback Swap let me know that this one was on its way to me :) (Paperback Swap)

4. Les Miserables by Victor Hugo - After seeing the Broadway version of Les Mis, I wanted to read the book. Actually, I've wanted to read the book for awhile, but once I saw this gorgeous new Penguin clothbound classic edition, yeah...I knew I had to have it. And it really is beautiful!!! (Bought it)

5. Why are Faggots so Afraid of Faggots? edited by Mattilda Bernstein Sycamore - My friend Carole McDonnell introduced me to Mattilda who edited this amazing sounding anthology of essays that question the idea of masculinity, the place of it in the lgbt community and much more. I started this one last night and I'm really excited about it! Point for Carole! (Review Copy)

6. Natural Histories by Tom Baione - This book is AMAZING!! I saw this at Barnes and Noble about a month ago and drooled over it. But didn't drool over the $50 price tag. Though now that I've seen it and own it, I can tell you that it IS worth it! It's a collection of classic essays on biology and has a collection of framable prints of classic biology art work included. Beautiful set!! Well Barnes and Noble had the book 50% off for Black Friday PLUS I had a 20% off coupon PLUS I got my member discount so I got this for like $19!! STEAL! (Bought it)

7. Peace is Every Step by Thich Nhat Hanh - Nancy the Bookfool recommended this book to me awhile back and I couldn't find a copy...but I did find another book of his and read that one and loved it! Well now this one finally came up on paperback swap! And at a very timely time too. The author is a buddhist, and my mom just got tickets for us to go see the Dalai Lama next year!! I'm so excited!! Point for this one goes to Nancy :) (Paperback Swap)

8. The Charioteer by Mary Renault - I've been wanting this book for So. Long. And it's finally mine!! I've wanted it every since Ana reviewed it. Like so many books that Ana has reviewed. My local bookstore never has it and I've had this one on the Paperback Swap wishlist too for a long time and finally got it! Point to Ana! (Paperback Swap)

hmm, like "son" like Mama! I have been taking waaaay tooooo loooong reading Citizens of London and yet I find it very interesting. It's a "real life" book about Churchill and some little known Americans who were trying to convince Roosevelt to hurry up and help England against Hitler. I can't remember reading a book like this before unless it was in "history" class as school. My ability to understand all I am reading sucks and so I am reading VERY slow. *sigh* But I am finally in the last 100 pages!! It must be the time of year. Christmas was always my favorite holiday but for years now the depression takes over so I will be glad when they are over.

I did mail cards yesterday so you and Matt will be getting a card each! lol
we both need to get happier..so get into some of those books!

That looks like Wesley from Star Trek NG on the cover of Charioteers. Funny. I have The Tiny Book, also. Wasn't sure I liked it, at first, but then I loved it on the second reading. I think the change of editor threw me a bit.

Peace is Every Step is sooo worth owning. I need to reread that one, sometime soon. I know you'll love it. I'm glad you got a copy! Wow, where are you going to see the Dalai Lama? Awesome!

I've been buying books all year too! They are piling up, so I've decided that in the new year I have to read some of them. This means I am going into panic buying for Christmas for me! lol

That is so Awesome that you are going to see the Dalai Lama, Chris. And that you have the Peace is Every Step book to read before hand. IT's something I am trying to learn now, how my attitude contributes to anger or to peace around me, and starts with me.

Don't worry about reading, you will again, and lots. Glad you have tomorrow off, every day off is wonderful, isn't it?

Enjoy your books!! That copy of Les Miserables is lovely. I'm reading it so slowly that if you were to start it, you might catch up with me :-)

Aren't those Penguin editions lovely? I want to own all of them just because I think they would look gorgeous sitting on a shelf together.

I'm probably the only one who thinks this, but doesn't the guy on the cover of The Charioteer look like Wil Wheaton in his Wesley Crusher days?
