The Fox Inheritance by Mary E. Pearson

Fair warning, I intend to avoid as many spoilers as possible in this review, but if you HAVE NOT read The Adoration of Jenna Fox yet, I would just totally avoid this review. Just saying what the basic plot of this book is will give a lot of the first book away. Or some of the twists and turns at least and I'd hate to do that for anyone. So fair warning! Turn ye back now if you have not read The Adoration of Jenna Fox!! I'll tell you that this was another fantastic book and that you should read BOTH of them and we'll leave at that for you guys...ok? Ok...now onto the review we go.

The Fox Inheritance takes place 260 years after the events of The Adoration of Jenna Fox and follows the points of view of Locke and Kara. You may remember them as the other two friend's of Jenna's who's minds were saved after the accident. Well it turns out that their minds have been saved all of these years, and a scientist has built them bodies and uploaded their minds 260 years after the fact, and they awaken into a world that they don't recognize. A world in which they learn they are display pieces for the scientist who created them so that he can sell his product to others. And they want no part of that. Especially after they learn that Jenna is still alive.

I have to admit I was wary about this book. I loved The Adoration of Jenna Fox SO much and I just wanted to continue Jenna's story, so I was kind of pissed when I learned we were jumping 260 years into the future and following Locke and Kara, characters we barely knew from the first book! But fear not!! Pearson does an amazing job with this book. And there is plenty of Jenna in this book too. But it wasn't Jenna I loved most in this book...no, Pearson creates a whole new set of characters that I came to truly care about and love so much.

She raises a lot of questions in this book. Challenges a lot of science and questions it's ethics as humans take control slowly over how the human body evolves, and looks at where we may be headed with "bots" that do many of the jobs that humans do. May not be far off from how things will operate 260 years from now. I've read much more far off versions of what things could be like.

I really don't want to spoil any of the plot of this one, so I'll just say, READ IT. If you enjoyed the first, you'll love this one too as it just builds wonderfully on the first book. And I'm REALLY interested to see now where she takes the final book in the trilogy which is due out sometime next year. Two thumbs up for me and I'm counting it as my third read for RIP as it's very much a thriller type novel!

Pretty much skipped mod of this review, as I still haven't go around to reading The Adoration of Jenna Fox. (It'd slipped into the dark recesses of my wishlist…)

Must keep an eye out for a copy. Not that I need to be adding to the TBR pile, but you know… ;-)

Shit. I really didn't need another book to be craving, you know? Somehow I suspect, you're not at all sorry about that though, are you? But it's been a while since I've read TAoJF, and while I do remember the main story, I'm wondering if it wouldn't do me good to reread it before reading this one.

Btw, you sure are kicking some major RIP ass here, aren't you? Three books already!

Darren, Yes you need to read them both!!

Debs, She actually does a pretty good job of reminding you of the events of the first book so I don't think a reread would be necessary ;) And I may have gotten a head start, but I'll probably stall soon :p

Hold up. We're jumping that far in the future?!? I've read the first book a long time ago but hadn't heard about this one. I'm going to have to see if my librarian has this one--although, I better whittle down my 20 reads at the moment. (It's a sickness.) Thanks for pointing this one out!

I haven't read The Adoration of Jenna Fox, yet, so I skipped. But, I do have a copy, somewhere in all those boxes. We've got so many boxes lined up and stacked in rows in one of the bedrooms that we are currently referring to the room as "the warehouse". It's that bad.
