Menagerie by Sharon Montrose

I'm afraid I have a really BAD bad bloggers post coming this Sunday. My package from Bookcloseouts.com came in the mail and it was kind of hilarious even to myself :p Plus a few other books have come in the mail too. Of course I had tons of fun going through the erm...fifteen books that arrived from book closeouts. And one of them grabbed me immediately and that book was Menagerie by Sharon Montrose.

What a GREAT little book this is! If you're an animal lover like I am, this one really is a must have. Sharon Montrose is a photographer and a truly gifted one at that. There's not glitz or glammer to the photos in Menagerie. In fact, it's quite the opposite. The pictures are simple, elegant, and hold a peaceful beauty to them.

Montrose divides the book into different categories....primates, farm animals, babies, reptiles, etc. The animals are all photographed against a plain white background and each photo is framed or presented in a unique fashion which adds to the rustic feel of the album.

There are very few words involved in this book, but the words that are there are smile inducing. It's a book that I can see myself flipping through again and again and again.

On a COMPLETELY unrelated note, I've discovered an awesome new blog! A Penguin a Week! Does anyone else read this awesome woman's blog? She collects and read the old vintage Penguin paperbacks and she's made me want to do the same, so I think I'm going to be on the lookout for them. The appeal of this idea is twofold. 1. I LOVE the design of the old Penguin paperbacks. 2. A lot of these titles are out of print and I'd just love to discover them at random. I've found a few online but they really are hard to come across unfortunately in the US. I'd love to start collecting them. Does anyone know of any places to find them either in the US or a place that will ship to the US? I'd love to collect all of the different series...they have the orange/yellow/gray/blue/green/etc. ones and they all sound fabulous!

as you collect them you might want to keep a list of those you find. are they specific authors or subject matter??? I looked over there but they seem very general.

I've been really wanting to find this book but someone else told me the pictures are surprisingly small- which seems a shame as they are so stunning and gorgeous. Is that true? were they relatively small in the book?
