Migraines, Migraines Go Away

No migraine today, thank God, but I did go to the neurologist this morning to have the meds switched up a bit. I've been taking Amitryptiline for awhile now for migraines. It's an antidepressant that's also used to treat migraines. It hasn't been working too well, but it has helped with my depression...go figure. So I think I'm going to stay on that medication in addition to the new one. The new one she prescribed is Topamax...anyone else try this one? It's a seizure medication, but hopefully will work in the migraine prevention area as well. It's got some brutal side effects which I hope won't come my way, although I wouldn't complain about the weight loss ;) I've found that Relpax works really well in getting rid of headaches. It's just so damn expensive ($30 co-pay for 6 pills!), but it's worth it.

As for the rest of the day, school is on the menu. blah...I'm going early though so that I can stop by the bookstore and get a diploma frame for my Master's which will be in my possession on May 19th :D

What a boring post...

Don't forget to get your name in for the Mirrormask giveaway. I'm picking the name tomorrow night!

Not a boring post! I take Amitryptiline for fibromyalgia - funny, huh? I don't get migraines (knock on wood), but my daughter does. I wouldn't wish those on my worst enemy. Hope the new medicine helps.

Your posts are never boring. Yes, I tried Topamax and it was a freaking disaster, for me. But, apparently, I'm pretty unusual. It turned me into a zombie and made me feel like I was walking on razor blades - sharp, sharp pains in feet and hands - which is apparently a sign of nerve damage. Fortunately, the nerve problems did go away when I stopped taking it. It also makes everything taste awful, hence the weight loss, but some people do really well on it. It's definitely worth a try and I hope it works for you.

Booklogged, it's funny how different meds work for different things! I'm hoping the meds help too.

Bookfool, I've heard disaster stories on Topamax, but I've heard good things as well. We'll see. I'm nervous now! lol...I took Neurontin once for anxiety and it turned me into a zombie. Hoping this doesn't do the same.

Hey Chris. I take Topamax too. I use Maxalt (which is a GOD-SEND) when I do feel a migraine coming on. The only problem with the Maxalt is that I can only get 6 pills for one prescription. Makes it alot more expensive.

Actually the Topamax seems to be working for me. My migraines are fewer and farther between these days!! Hope it helps for you.

Great Steph...That's how my Relpax is too...I hate that...they only give me 6 pills as well.
