Once Upon A Time Challenge

Carl has officially posted the details for the Once Upon A Time Challenge, and I'm so excited about it! This challenge covers my favorite genre - fantasy, fairy tales, mythology, and folklore. I really hope that lots of people participate in this challenge. It's a genre of literature that can appeal to anyone. You don't have to be a fan of wizards and knights to enjoy fantasy, the genre branches off in so many directions. If there's anyone out there that's looking for something to read for this challenge, let me know what kind of stuff you like and I'd be more than happy to help you find a perfect fit.

My List:

1. The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle
2. Hart's Hope by Orson Scott Card
3. Moonheart by Charles DeLint
4. A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
5. The Complete Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde

Bonus: A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare (A perfect wrap up to the challenge)

Now hopefully, I can finish all of these by June 21st, Midsummer Night's Eve, in addition to the Banned books challenge which ends in June as well.

I've read the first 3 in Martin's series. The 4th is out, but I haven't read it.

Dark Orpheus wrote about The Last Unicorn recently, and I think I need to be added to my list; maybe not for the challenge, though, as I've got a full house for that one.

Thanks for stopping by!

Wish I would learn to edit! I really don't think "I" need to be added to my list!

Fantastic list of books, very nicely done. So glad you're participating. I wish us both well in tackling Game of Thrones! ;)

Jenclair, Thank you for stopping by too! I can't wait to finally start tackling Martin's series. The Last Unicorn is one I've been wanting to read for awhile and it just always got pushed back, so here's my chance to read it :)

Carl, thanks for hosting this challenge! It's one of the best I've seen in awhile. Love the image you picked for it as well.

Hi Chris--I just wanted to say thanks for the recommendation re: Gaiman's "Stardust." I was thinking of starting the challenge with it, and now that I know Clarke references it in one of her stories, it's a definite go! I've been interested in Gaiman for some time--I used to work in an independent bookstore in CA and his events were always among the largest! Cheers, Sarah

Thanks for stopping by Chris! Only 1 book in, and I already know I'm going to be a big Neil Gaiman fan!! I think Anansi Boys is going to be great too.

I like you list. I'm pretty much new to the sci-fi/fantasy genres. Any suggestions you have will always be appreciated!

Hey Stephanie, thank you for stopping by as well. Oh, there's so many great books out there. Anything by Orson Scott Card is wonderful. His sci-fi isn't your typical sci-fi, he puts so much emotion and humanness into his characters. I recommend starting with Enders Game, or if you like fantasy, Enchantment or Magic Street.

Anything by Gaiman is great.

Charles DeLint is a really great author, I love Greenmantle. Great book.

Fab list Chris! Will be interesting to see what everyone reading A Game of Thrones makes of it.

Lovely that you're reading The Last Unicorn, it is a truly wonderful story.
