Writing: I'm back to writing assessments again! Which means I'm finally back to work after being out for a month. I was really nervous and hesitant about going back to work but I have to say that it's actually been good and everyone there has been super supportive. Aside from that, not writing a whole lot. Part of me really wants to dive into NaNoWriMo this year and the bigger part of me says no. I had an idea come to me for a story I want to tell as they usually do this time of year but I always get so discouraged when I do NaNo because I focus too much on rushing through the first draft then get overwhelmed with how badly it's written and give up on ever making it into anything decent. Maybe I should just write in November even if I don't do NaNo.
Reading: I've been reading so many good things lately! October has been one of my best reading months so far this year. I just finished Monster on the Hill, a wonderful little graphic novel that was recommended to me by Ana, and I can't recommend it enough to everyone else. It has tons of heart in it and it was just....perfect. I wanted to hug it. Right now I'm reading Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie and believe it or not that's the ONLY novel I'm reading right now! I'm also reading a few short stories from the most recent issue of Tin House and a new Penguin collection called American Supernatural Tales. It's part of their Penguin Classic Horror collection curated by Guillermo Del Toro!
Listening: I've been listening to The Velvet Underground's first album today after the sad news of Lou Reed dying :( That's one that hit pretty hard and I know that it affects a lot of people. He made some amazing music. Oddly enough, the other band that I've been listening to a lot lately is Fleetwood Mac. I seem to have thrown myself back into the 60's and 70's. I used to love Fleetwood Mac in the 90s and then stopped listening to them for awhile but the way that Ryan Murphy has incorporated them, particularly Stevie Nicks, into the new season of American Horror Story has got me in love with them all over again. Also, the new Best Coast "mini album" as they're calling it since it's slightly longer than an EP but not quite an LP. OMG so good!! Best thing they've put out since their debut LP.
Watching: See above. The new season of American Horror Story, Coven, is SO GOOD! Damn, it just gets better and better with each episode. I seriously think that everything that Ryan Murphy touches just turns to gold. I love that mans mind. Aside from it just being a fantastic show, I also love how he didn't turn New Orleans into a giant cliche. Yes Marie Laveau is alive and well as a voodoo priestess in the show but if anyone can have THAT in a show without making it a New Orleans cliche, it's Ryan Murphy. It's American Horror Story set in New Orleans....not NEW ORLEANS AMERICAN HORROR STORY WITH ALL THE CAJUNS which is what I was afraid it was going to be. He got it right.
Looking: I'm continuously looking for balance in life and find that it's actually slowly becoming easier to find. Also, how to date...I'm looking to learn how to do that without having a panic attack because eventually it would be nice to do that again.
Learning: To treat myself better. That life isn't always all about one thing or another, it's about all the things and doing all those things in moderation and in the amounts that they feel right to you. That life is short and that you only get one of them so it's wise to enjoy each day as much as you can, stress as little as possible as much as you have control over it when you do have control over it. Unfortunately we don't always have control over those things.
Feeling: Pretty damn happy with where I am right now in life, still wanting more, but remembering that first part of the sentence....that I'm happy with where I am too.
Anticipating: The rest of the year!!! I absolutely love this time of year :) It's the holidays!!! Autumn and winter are my favorite seasons and with them comes the holidays. First is Halloween, one of my very favoritest holidays...I plan to watch and read spooky things non stop for the next four days, then we have November which is basically a giant celebration of Fall with all things orange, red and yellow and pumpkin-y, clove-y and cinnamon-y leading up to Thanksgiving with yummy food and then comes Winter with CHRISTMAS :D I seriously love Christmas so much...not a scrooge here :p
Wishing: For Halloween to last a little bit longer :p I feel that I didn't get to imbibe in the Halloween spirit quite long enough this year and now it's right around the corner.
Loving: This weather! It took long enough but Fall has finally arrived in New Orleans! We've had highs in the mid 70's with lows generally in the upper 50s but getting down into the upper 40's one night!! I just love the feeling in the air this time of year :) I bought some mums at whole foods today because they go so perfectly with Fall I think and they certainly cheered me up :)
I hope you all have been loving lots of things as well!

Funny thing, when you grow up in a tiny town in the middle of nowhere, tv informs a lot of your emotional reactions to the world. Even though it's a big state, when I think of LA I think of Marie Laveau and spooky things or Mardi Gras. You LA natives must get tired of being pigeon holed. (On the other hand, the atmosphere could be inspiring.)
Love your kitty pic! And, in case you didn't know, black cats are in *DANGER* on Halloween. If you can, keep Charli indoors. We were often warned that we must keep Miss Spooky inside on Halloween or I would never have known better. You'd think it would be a good day because people take their dogs in, but no . . . it's people you have to worry about, not other animals.
So glad you're back at work and feeling good about it! And, the weather . . . always cheering. It's darn near perfect, here. We're warming up after chilling with Eldest and DIL in New Jersey, for a few days. They have wind up there, too! Boy, does it get cold at night!
