Saturday Farmer's Market - 6/1/13

Saturday Farmers Market is a weekly event originally created by the beautiful and nature loving, Heather at Capricious Reader. It's a weekly event that celebrates gardening, be it your own garden or gardens around you; local food, be that at your local farmers market or at a restaurant or festival that celebrates eating locally; a recipe that you've created using fresh ingredients or a whole cookbook; and veggies, flowers, herbs and farm goods galore. Anyone and everyone can participate. It was originally started within the book blogging community but I'd love to see it expand beyond as well. You don't have to have a garden or grow veggies to participate, just post about how veggies, flowers, local farms, etc. have impacted your life this week. You'd be surprised! It may be too cold to grow things and it may be too hot to grow things, but you may just want to post about the plans you have for when the ground thaws. Or maybe even share with us how your community aims to keep things more sustainable or even about the local trails and nature offerings around you! This will also connect really well with Mrs. Beth Fish's Weekend Cooking ;) Thanks Heather for letting me take over the reigns for this wonderful idea that spawned from your creative brain :) Feel free to leave the link to your post in the Mr. Linky below, spread the word, and come back to read everyone else's posts as well!

I can't believe it's June already! But it is! My Saturday Farmer's Market post is going to be short and sweet this week. Not a whole lot has changed this week in the garden. It's getting to be that time of the year in the deep south where everything sort of starts to come to a standstill for a little while because it just gets TOO hot. I think the plants start to focus on just staying alive :/ But in the meantime there were a few things worth telling you about!

I think my favorite thing about this week is that the nasturtium seeds I planted awhile back have long come up but they're starting to put up flowers now :) I LOVE nasturtiums so much :) I think they're such pretty flowers.

The Ixora is about to finally put out another set of blooms too which makes me happy. This little shrub hasn't flowered again since I bought it about a year ago, so I'm glad to see it WILL flower again. It puts out these clusters of tons of beautiful, creamy yellow flowers. Can't wait for these to open :)

The bell peppers are looking fantastic this year! Except one of them on the other plant got so heavy it cracked the stem it was on :/ But they're really the prettiest peppers I have ever grown! They have really thick walls and are a really nice size too!

And then I had to share this tomato with you because it seems to be growing some kind of a nose or something.... Some type of protuberance is coming out of the top of it...hmmm....it'll be interesting to see what this little guy looks like by the time he ripens :p

And that's it for my garden this week! What does your garden look like this first week of June?

Oh my gosh, look at those beautiful peppers and tomatoes!!!! And your nasturtiums--so so so so so beautiful!!!! I've never grown any--do they smell as pretty as they look?

Btw, weird tidbit--our high temp has been higher than yours the past couple of days. But we're supposed to cool down appreciably soon--yay!!!
