No that little postcard has nothing to do with this series....I just happened to use it as a bookmark and it's as adorable as this series is, so I stuck it in the picture :p You guys, I'm seriously in LOVE with this series after just reading the first two volumes. It's absolutely beautiful and sweet and sad at times and empowering and it just warms my heart. I'm also just happy that this exists.
This is a manga series, though it's published in a different form than most manga. These are beautiful, oversized hardcover editions rather than the typical trade paperback sized manga. Takako gives us the stories of two middle school transgender kids who are just starting to find themselves. Nitori Shuichi is a biological male who is just starting to come to terms with the fact that he feels more comfortable as a female. And Takatsuki Yoshino is a biological female coming to terms with the fact that she feels more comfortable as a male.
The two become supports for each other as they start the very beginning of their transitioning and have the support of a few other close friends who know their secrets too. But the story is so much more than this. What I love so much about this series is that Shimura Takako tells us their stories...not as just transgendered people, but just as people...who happen to be transgendered. We get to know their families, their school lives, the struggles they face as adolescents, and THEN we see how being transgendered complicates things at times.
There were scenes in here that warmed my heart and there were scenes that pissed me off. And then of course there were scenes that just made me want to cry. The stories made all the better by Takako's adorable drawing style. I loved the art SO much in this series!!! I really can't wait to get the rest of these. I have a feeling it won't be long before I do!

Yay!!! I didn't realize (though you probably told me--stupid brain!) that you'd gotten the second one as well. Aren't they just wonderful wonderful wonderful?!! I've got the third one out from the library right now, but they don't have the fourth one yet.
Going to look it up! Sounds fantastic!
