Bad Bloggers and Sunday Thoughts

I'm beginning to think that maybe I should just change the name of this blog to "bad bloggers and sunday thoughts"...because that's about all it's been lately. Le sigh. I just need to pull my shit together. It's been week after week of hell at work lately and honestly, I don't think I've read anything at all in like two weeks now. Nothing. It's easy to get stuck on all of the bad and focus on that, so I'm going to try not to do that here. Because the truth is, there's plenty enough good going on too right now. Like these things:

  • I saw Fiona Apple with Matt on Monday at the House of Blues and it's one of the best concerts I've been to in years. In fact, it may just be one the best concerts I've ever been to. I've wanted to see her since the 90s, so this was a nice little check off the ole list. She did plenty of material off of all four of her albums and I don't know that I've ever seen a musician pour so much of themselves into their music on stage as she did. It really was a magical night and one I'll remember for a long, long time.
  • I'm getting better at ironing!! No seriously...this is a big thing for me guys. I am ashamed to admit this, but until I moved into this apartment either my mom ironed my clothes or the dry cleaners did. Since I can't afford a dry cleaning bill, I had to learn. When I started, it would take me about an hour to iron 4 pieces of clothing. Yep....last night though I ironed a record NINE pieces of clothing in an hour! And I'm finding I enjoy it. I just pull up my itunes and listen to music and iron and just lose myself in it :)
  • I got paid and paid all of my bills that I've been stressing about so much. I stress about money SO much, but in reality, I have NEVER been late on a bill. Literally. I have a credit score in the 790s and that's because I stress about money so much :/ Sometimes I wish I didn't. But it feels so good to now have all of my bills paid for October!! Now to start saving for November :p
  • I'm feeling better and better about my private practice. My clients seem to be doing better and better. And even the ones that are having bad weeks seem to be moving in the right direction in a really odd sort of way. And I see a lot of new doors opening up ahead for me. That makes me happier than anything because hopefully it'll lead to me eventually gradually going over to more private practice, less $dayjob (to use Renay's term :p)
  • The Saints are playing tomorrow and they better fucking play good or else a lot of people are going to start being really really sad :( Because this season is not looking good. But a Saints game is always a good thing!
  • And there are great books coming in ;) Here's what came in the house this week. And sadly, I have no one to blame but myself for these four books. Three of the four are for the Penguin collection too, but I'm adding them here, because they're just awesome books in addition to being Penguins. In other words, I didn't get them just to collect them.
1. Dodger by Terry Pratchett - Now I have TWO new Terry Pratchett books to read!!!! I really need to get to reading, because this one and The Long Earth both sound totally incredible. Was so excited when this one arrived!! (Bought it)

2. Sold as a Slave by Olaudah Equiano - This is a part of the Penguin Great Journeys series which I had never heard of before! But me and Matt went shopping at our local indie bookstore, Octavia Books, on Monday before the Fiona Apple show and they always carry the most cool editions of books and I saw this and had to get it! It sounds like an incredible book too...it's Equiano's account of coming over as a slave to the US from Africa. Sounds like it will be completely heartbreaking and enraging, but an important one nonetheless. (Bought it)

3. The Wind in the Willow by Kenneth Grahame - I ADORED this book as a child. And I haven't read it since then. Once again, I found this copy at our local indie and fell in love with it so much. It's part of Penguin's "Penguin Threads" collection and the cover truly looks like it's been embroidered. You can run your fingers over it and it FEELS embroidered. Beautiful production. Can't wait to revisit this childhood friend. (Bought it)

4. Adventures in the Rocky Mountains by Isabella Bird - So after finding Sold as a Slave, I started looking at the other titles in the Penguin Great Journeys series and they really all sound SO good...so I added them on to my PaperbackSwap wishlist and got this BRAND NEW copy from PaperbackSwap like right away. They're such wonderfully designed little books. Woohoo! (Paperback Swap)

Wind in the Willows is one of my most treasured books for a couple of reasons. First is that is the first "big book" that I remember reading in primary school and my grandmother also loved the stories.

Can you come and do my ironing? I avoid ironing at all costs, all the time!

I love ironing! I just find it so relaxing, a good time for my mind to just wander. But Rich won't let me iron his clothes--he's definitely the rumpled professor type. :P And well, I just don't wear ironable clothes, comfort queen that I am. So I just don't get to iron that much.

The Saints are breaking my heart a little bit this year, but I feel like it's me paying my dues -- I hadn't started watching football in the old days when the Saints were bad, and this year can be my chance to prove I'm not just a fair-weather fan. I hate to see one of Drew Brees's remaining years as a QB used up in this fashion. He obviously blames himself for everything that goes wrong, and his sadness pierces me like knives.

Congrats on the ironing! I am a terrible ironer, and yesterday because I was doing chores, I ironed a shirt that has literally been hanging in my closet unwearable for TWO YEARS because it was wrinkly and I really, really, really didn't want to iron it.

I don't think I've ironed since middle school home ec. class. LOL! I haven't missed it even if it means I end up a little on the wrinkly side sometimes. Between my reluctance to iron and my reluctance to hand wash anything, my clothing options are in major decline... ;-) Good for you, though! Maybe you'll inspire me...maybe.

I can't remember the last time I ironed something... seriously! Though if I start sewing again I'll have to have the iron out a lot.

Yay getting paid, boo stressing about money :(. But it sounds like you are on the right track. I'm so glad to hear your private practice is doing well, Chris!

Have a lovely week!

I understand about the lack of reading. I think I've read two books so far this month. Fingers crossed that everything will keep moving in the right direction and you're able to get some reading done.

My reading is very slack lately, too. I love Wind in the Willows- my father read it to me when I was little and I've read it over again by myself many times since.

I hate ironing. I never do it unless I absolutely have to. In fact when my husb. moved out he took the iron and ironing board with him, and I haven't missed it once!

I'm like you with money- I worry about it and am very anal about paying my bills and debts- never been late, so I have a great credit score even though I'm usually broke!

I avoid ironing like the plague! But good for you for getting the hang of it.
