I Wait All Year For This

Happy October Everyone! Yes, it's a holiday in my little world. October has always been my favorite month and just the name of the month itself is beautiful. It brings to mind warm colors and a chill in the air, pumpkin spice lattes and old tattered books, Tim Burton movies and Tori Amos. Everything in it's right place. This year has been made extra special by two new additions to the usual mix. The first is the RIP Challenge which I'm truly loving. Not only has my reading been focused on the eerie and gothic, but I've also penned a couple of tiny stories in the horror vein. Secondly, Lisa Snellings-Clark has kicked off her Play In The Dark sale and.....WOW! It's just amazing. Go see for yourself. Keep checking as she has said on her blog that she will continue to add things over the next few days. I definitely won't be able to afford everything that I want, but I did manage to pick up a skeleton poppet already!

So for the rest of the month, I will continue my October traditions of surrounding myself with as many gaudy Halloween decorations as I can find, watching as many cheesy horror movies as I can, being outdoors as much as possible to enjoy the Fall weather (whenever it gets here), drowning in Starbucks' Pumpkin Spice Lattes, and of course...reading as many "October books" as possible. And after this comes Thanksgiving and Christmas! The end of the year is always my favorite...geesh, it's the end of the year!

Happy October to you too! It's our first Halloween and Christmas in our new flat so I hope to make an effort this year. Last year we had lights and a bright pink tree which was funky, but this year I want more damnit. I might try carbing my first ever pumpkin later this month and put up some scary pictures.

I love October too!

Oh, and Happy October to you as well! I'm with you...these last three months are just the best part of the year. October is absolutely, positively special...I mean there's just no other time like it, is there? You can sort clump June, July, and August together. Or January and February. But October...well, October stands alone! Its uniqueness just speaks to me!

well this will be a good month for you... not only is it fall it's the month you begin your new job!! It will be an exciting time for you.. and it happens in a month you love.. can't ask for more! (well.. heh..we can always ask for more! lol)

By the way, I can't believe you've written a COUPLE of tiny stories!!! I did write one...and it took me almost 6 hours to do it! I tell you, I still can't decide if they're fun to write or just an exercise in extreme torture! Anyway, I can't wait to read yours!

Rhinoa, Ooh, isn't that fun? Our first Halloween in Megan's apartment wasn't too big of a deal, because she lived in an apartment complex, but Christmas was really fun because we got our first tree and put up lights together and stuff. A bright pink tree sounds awesome...what more can you do ;) Carving pumpkins is so much fun! It's one of my favorite parts of the whole Halloween thing..can't wait to see yours :)

Chris (the other one ;), What's not to love? Enjoy it!

Debi, You said it perfectly, October has to be the most "unique" month out of the bunch by far. There's just something so special about it. I can't stand June, July, and August...horrible months...but these last three really are special. Even though there's a chill in the air (in some parts of the country at least) they're somehow the most warm months of the year....God, now that's a hallmark card waiting to be written, huh? Where do I pull this crap from, lol! But I mean it!

Deslily, It will indeed be a good month :) I'm hoping it's a turn around month and it's feeling like it will be. October's always an exciting time for me and it will definitely be even more so with the new job...either more exciting or more something! Either way, I'm getting more...And you're right...we can always ask for more ;)

Debi (again) lol, I wrote my first tiny story and I just wasn't happy with it...so I did another one. Now this new one is going to be the official submission I think, but now I have another idea in my head...who knows! I have fun with these though! It's like a puzzle for me and love any kind of puzzle where you have to "make it work"...I can always be found with a crossword puzzle nearby and a jigsaw puzzle in the works.

I adore October! Lovely leaves and bonfire smells. Happy RIPing to you, good sir.

I'm in love with the Moon Girl poppet. Must get rich.

chrisa511 said...

Stormfilled, And the same to you good ma'am :) Yeah, I'm afraid I'm going to break the bank with this poppet sale! The moon girl poppet is incredible! It will most certainly be out of my range though so I won't be bidding competition for you ;)

Yeah for October!! I love Halloween! And the fall! All all things scary! I'm so glad you are reading Fragile Things right now! It's really hard for me to only do the Short Story Sunday's!! (But I had started with Poe, and got immensely bored with them. Maybe another time!)

I'm totally staying away from those Poppets! They are way too expensive for me...though I really like the little skeletons!

chrisa511 said...

Stephanie, I'm loving Fragile Things, but I'm quite sad now as there are only a couple of stories left...but the last focuses on one of my favorite characters from American Gods, my favorite book of Gaiman's! So I'm looking forward to that!

The poppets are going to break me this month! Luckily I start a new job this month though with a considerably higher salary than my current job ;)

There is a lot to love about the end of the year. I like fall the best, but also love Christmas. I hurt in the cold weather, though, so that's a drawback.

chrisa511 said...

Booklogged, Sorry to hear that you hurt in the cold weather :( I know something about that. I was born with my right leg turned out and wore a brace for awhile and my hip never healed quite right and it pops when I walk, so at 26, I already have the early stages of arthritis in it and it can be quite uncomfortable in the cold. Happy autumn to you though :) Hope the cold stays away for as long as possible for you!

Yay, happy October to you, too! My kids had been PESTERING me for the whole last week of September about when we'd get to decorate for Halloween, so they are certainly in your frame of mind. I finally hefted and heaved boxes and tubs for hours (maybe 20 minutes) and found the right containers, and they had a blast decorating this weekend. My favorite of their many quirky decorative touches was the fake eyeball they found and attached to the front door. So now we have a lovely disembodied eye that stares at people when they come to the door. Yes, these apples have not fallen at all far from this tree! :-D

ahem, you seem to have forgotten the best part of October at all! I was born. :) And the world would be very lacking if that had not happened, of course. lol I love October too, but not only for that reason. Where I live we get the leaves changing and it is wonderful. Except this year, I guess the leaves are 'sick' and are not supposed to be as impressive this year. hmph. We had a lousy summer and no pretty leaves, I am scared for the winter!

I suddenly want to watch a Tim Burton movie.

chrisa511 said...

Darla, Your kids sound incredibly cool :) Fake eyeballs on the door are always a nice touch! It's so good to hear about kids getting excited about decorating and mom's instilling the Halloween spirit in them...that's the stuff that great memories are made of!

Kailana, Indeed the world would be lacking without that! I'd feel so much more alone in my book obsessiveness! So when exactly is the special day? Sorry to hear about the leaves...that's horrible and quite sad :( Yes, yes...Tim Burton movies now!

and my birthday is coming up!! Let's get mom to buy us a pumpkin and we can carve a scary face :)

I've got a "thing" for pumpkin decorations, myself. And seasonally-appropriate small-sized candies! And I'm right there with you with the pumpkin spice lattes!! ;) So happy October to you!

Literacy-chic said...

I also seem to like having babies in or around October--well, 2 of 3 anyway! :P

chrisa511 said...

Michelle, You still have almost 2 months before your birthday! OK, let's get a pumpkin tomorrow!

N, Y'all are the ones who got me hooked on the pumpkin spice lattes! I can't get enough of them ever since I first got one with y'all the first time me and Megan came to visit you waaaaay back when...And yay for babies in October :) You've had some might fine ones :D

Oh god! Last week I mentioned how much I coveted the Little Pink Poppet, and low and behold. She appears! On sale!

In my mind, I'm justified in spending $25 + s/h on her because I got the Little Blue one free. ;)

I'm staying far, far away from all the other ones, even though I'm in love with everything harlequin.

chrisa511 said...

Eva, You're going to love Little Pink. I spent $40 for mine, so I'm jealous of the sale :p But just wait until you get it! It's huge! And it's so creepy and detailed and just beautiful. It's a real piece of art and I thought it was a steal at $40...I have one of her harlequin dancers and it's my prized possession of hers! It used to be my only one of a kind piece by her, but now I have the candlestick holders too which aren't really one of a kind, but she said she won't paint any others those colors. So I guess they are. Anyway, her art is beautiful and I try to scoop up as much as I can when there's a bargain :p It's great stuff to decorate with!

put it that way, october does sound good! :)

as i said on carl's blog (another october lover, like you) october is just too depressing in england as the weather is so crap all year long, so when october comes you think "shit, so that was our good weather. is that all we're getting this year?".

but as i also said, i used to love april in south africa! and i do like it once winter finally starts here (for similar reasonst hat you like october) 'cause then its here and theres no hint of a reminder of the crap summer that was.

also, the rip challenge is so cool, that it is certainly cheering me up this october...! :)

chrisa511 said...

JP, That's so sad :( I can't fathom October being a bad month...you should come move to the states ;) Glad you at least have the RIP challenge making it better for you!

Amen to October finally being here!!! I am so pissed that the last couple of days have seen upper 80's, low 90's temps as it is really messing up my Halloween/October vibe. Things better change soon! ;)

My plan for this weekend is to immerse myself in all things October. I've got my scary movies out, I'm ready to dive back into R.I.P. II reading, and I've snagged both the Martha Stewart Halloween Special magazine and this month's copy of Living just to get myself in the mood for future Halloween and fall festivities. I wish we all lived closer together so we could celebrate together. But you know what, this blog connection stuff is pretty darn cool and is certainly the next best thing.

chrisa511 said...

Carl, The weather has been screwy here too. We have summer days, 90's and humid for the most part, but then we have these beautiful October nights. So I've been enjoying the nights! I just wish that the temperatures would stick around during the day! I know exactly what you mean though...it's messing up my Halloween time! Your weekend sounds great though! My plans are somewhat similar and that's the plan every weekend during October...I milk it for all it's worth during this month! Wouldn't it be great if we could have a big blogger Halloween party? But you're right..this is the next best thing!

Bellezza said...

I like pumpkin spice lattes, too; almost as much as peppermint mocha ones! And, as you say, it's coming soon! However, I don't know about where you live, but here outside of Chicago? It's STILL (HAS BEEN, SEEMS LIKE IT WILL BE FOREVER) eighty-some f...ing degrees outside. I am way done with that. Was done with it in August as a matter of fact. All that complaining to say, yes, October is great and may the temperatures get there soon please!

chrisa511 said...

Bellezza, I would LOVE 80 something F...ing degrees, lol...it's been 90 something f...ing degrees here everyday! But the nights are nice at least. If only the nights weather would stick around. It's the humidity that I really can't stand. It's so humid all the time in New Orleans, can't stand it! I've tried the Peppermint Mochas and I can't get used to them...it taste too much like a candy cane. Too much peppermint. If it were a smoother flavor, I'd like it more...just mint would be better, no peppermint :p
