Rainy Days And Mondays

Don't always get me down. How's that for a clever title for a post. Oh brother :p There's something that I just love about the rumble of thunder on a summer afternoon. It's the most relaxing sound in the world. Especially when I can enjoy it at home underneath the patio with a book. I love the rain. I always have. I'm one of those strange people who love thunderstorms. I know there's plenty of you out there like me. I just find the rain to be very relaxing and the power of nature just never ceases to amaze me. I also have a strange fascination with hurricane season which is now upon us. I certainly don't love hurricane's after what I've been through with Katrina, but I'm fascinated by them. When there's one out there, I'm constantly glued to the weather channel. I know for a fact I'm not alone in this one...Jroy, represent!

So anyway, that's exactly what I'm doing this afternoon...enjoying a book with the sound of thunder in the background. I'm STILL reading A Game of Thrones though it's going much quicker now and I'm reading about 100 pages a day. It's much more gripping towards the end. I've never taken this long to read a book! I started on May 18th and took about a 15 day break from it. Then I'd only read 2 or 3 chapters at a time because it just wasn't catching me. Now it's got me and I'm really enjoying it. Hopefully it keeps me in it's clutches. I really hope to finish these 2 challenges this month. I think I'll manage...I hope!

One other quick thing. I wanted to point everyone in the direction of Endicott's site. There are 3 new Terri Windling prints available and they are beautiful! I think I'm going to be picking up 2 of them for myself and possibly a third as a Christmas gift. Very early shopping! The first one that I want is "From the Shadows." It's a beautiful print and features lyrics from Tori Amos' song "Girl" from my favorite album of hers, Little Earthquakes. The other print is just stunning and is entitled "Coyote Woman." The money goes to support Endicott and two children's charities and all prints are signed by Terri Windling.

I love storms, although Hurricane Katrina made me nervous. I paced the whole time - couldn't read a thing. And, it was soooo hot.

Oh God, Katrina was miserable. I couldn't get much reading done either. After about 2 weeks I started reading again...but my mind was mush right after that storm. What a mess!

Rain and a quiet time with a good book, plus a cozy atmostphere with thunder in the background - what's not to like?

I always think of rain as a blessing - where would we be without it? Although, in hurricaine season, there are times when that philosophy goes right out the window!

I don't mind "rain".. but lately here in the east thunder/ lightening storms have all turned bad. Many trees come down destroying homes and cars and pulling out electricity.. so I don't like them very much ..

more prints eh?.. don't you need money for school young man?!

I love storms too, especially with the windows open and a breeze blowing.

I lived in VA for a couple of hurricanes. They were small but I know what you mean about being glued to the TV!

Doesn't get much better than that, huh Darla? I tend to think of the rain in the same way. I can't stand it when we go into a drought. Makes me grumpy!

Deslily, Y'all have been having some pretty bad rain over there! I'd call that a little more than rain. It seems like y'all can't get a break lately. Heh...haven't ordered the prints yet...I really can't afford them, so it'll be awhile before I do that. Yeah, as I consider going back to school I'm still trying to spend money...when will I learn?!

Amy, Nice way to enjoy the rain! Thats how I used to do it too. But now with this new house we're renting I have a covered patio for the first time in my life, so I can actually be outside on the swing! love it!

I'm one of the few people I know who love a.) rain and b.) snow. Those gray, stormy kind of days always give me permission to read, which sunny days don't. On a sunny day, one almost feels obligated to do something horrible...like, exercise.

Chris said...

Haha! I love it..."horrible thing like exercise". You sound like me. I love snow too. That's only because I've only seen it about twice in my life being that I live in New Orleans. I've always wanted to go to Chicago...it must be nice living there. I've always said if I moved away it would be to Chicago. I've been told that it's the closest city to New Orleans in the country...but of course you actually get snow there!

I've always been a rain lover as well...with in reason, of course. No need for torrential downpours or anything. A good thunderstorm now and then with light rains in between is just fine. I could certainly live in Seattle and not get depressed. I think I'm alone in my circle regarding that! ;)

Great prints, I especially like the one with the lyrics from Girl on it. That entire album is amazing. I can listen to it over and over and it has such deep emotional currents in it for me, as it no doubt does for everyone who loves it and Tori. You've got me in the mood, I'm going to have to fire that up here on the PC while I'm "working". ;)

Carl, That's one album that I will never get sick of. I could listen to that one on repeat forever and enjoy it every time. I'll let you get back to "work" now, lol..

The new prints are wonderful. I'm going to get the one with the Tori Amos lyrics as soon as I can afford to. That album is one of my all time favourites as well. And it was the reason why I discovered Neil Gaiman!

I LOVE thunderstorms. One of my favourite things about visiting my boyfriend's family in Brazil is getting to see their thunderstorms. We don't get thunderstorms like that here. They're incredibly intense, and yet the sky still remains strangely bright. It's so beautiful.

I love reading on stormy days, and also waking up with a thunderstorm in the middle of the night.

Nymeth, Brazil is on my list of one of the places that I want to travel to. It's great that you have ties there!

Tear in your Hand is one of my favorite Tori Amos songs, in fact, it may just be my favorite. Love the Neil reference in that song :) Makes me smile every time I hear it.

I love thunderstorms too!! Perfect reading weather! Sorry, no hurricanes in Illinois, but we get our fair share of tornados. They scare me to death!

I'm on my way NOW to check out the new prints!

Chris said...

Steph, I could never handle tornados! I'll take a hurricane any day over one of those. I'd probably die of heart failure before a tornado came anywhere near my house.

Tear in your hand has always been my favorite, very clever lyrics in there. Especially like "I don't believe you're leaving because me and Charles Manson like the same ice cream..."

Chris said...

Love the lyrics in that song Carl...I saw an interview with her a long time ago on MTV and she revealed exactly what that ice cream was...I forgot though :(

I love a good rain storm on a summer day. Your description had me momentarily sitting on my patio, book in hand, listening to the thunder. Very pleasant. Thanks for the pleasant break, Chris.

Glad you enjoyed it Booklogged :) Sounds nice!
