Rediscovering Fruit

So I've been trying to shred away the pounds before the Mexico trip and it just isn't working. So I really have to change my eating habits. My biggest weakness is sweets. I adore chocolate and eat it in just about any form it comes in. I figured I have to stop that and find something else sweet, so I'm rediscovering fruit. Navel oranges and green grapes seem to do the trick for me. I've managed to go all day today without snacking on anything but oranges and grapes. Now it's just a matter of keeping it up. The willpower has to hang in there. I've also discovered these oranges called Tangelos that I've never heard of before. They taste like an orange, just smaller with a thinner skin. Sort of like a satsuma.

Lots of people at the hospital are doing sugar busters, but that just doesn't work for me. I just can't cut out potatoes, bread, and pasta. I have to stop drinking soft drinks as well. I can't stand diet drinks, but I've discovered that Crystal Light isn't all that bad. In fact, the iced tea and the fruit punch are surprisingly good and non-diet tasting.

The Last Unicorn is about to come to a close, and I've really enjoyed it thus far. Glad that I finally got around to reading that one. Next up is Brave New World. I can then join the rest of the planet that has read that book. Where did I go to high school....Mars? It's strange that I was never required to read some of these classics in school.

I didn't read BNW in high school--and I'm glad. No high school student is mature enough for that book. And no high school teacher that I've ever known is equipped with the skill to tackle the themes of the book in a class of raging adolescents (I was going to put adolescence, but I figured someone might think it was a typo. It wasn't...)

I bought some really nice pears today! Fruit is great, if you can get it past the baggers. Self-check-out is a beautiful thing!

P.S.--You can tell me if you agree with my assessment about BNW in high school when you finish it! ;)

Will do. I'm looking forward to BNW...starting it tonight. I love pears...I used to live off of them when I was a kid :)

Don't feel bad, I haven't read Brave New World either. Or Fahrenheit 451, or probably many of the other 'classics' one often gets to in high school.

Me either. I need to get to BNW and a few others I missed.

I had to smile about Literacy-chic's comment. If you can just get the checkers to handle your fruit with care, you've got it made. :)
