The Newbery Challenge

OK, I'm joining yet another challenge. This one doesn't start until the end of May, and it goes on until the end of December. So this one shouldn't be too stressful. It's The Newbery Challenge, hosted by Natti Writes. The challenge is to read 6 books that have been awarded the Newbery Award. Here are my 6 books:

1. High Power of Lucky by Susan Patron
2. The Tale of Despereaux by Kate Dicamillo
3. Crispin: The Cross of Lead by Avi
4. The Giver by Lois Lowry
5. Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
6. Bud, Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis

I'm excited about this one...I love YA books.

I haven't posted my list yet, but will do this evening. I have picked my books though, and it looks like we will be reading two of the same ones! :-) Whee!

Yay! I picked most of the newer books, but I also wanted to reread Bridge to Terabithia and give a first read to The Giver.

I've read Despereaux and Bridge to Terabithia and loved them both. I saw The Giver on somebody's Dystopian Challenge list. I don't know that I ever bothered to read the cover, although we have a copy around here and my youngest has read it (he gave it a thumbs-up).

Great too hotty! Looking forward to reading them.

bookfool, I read Terabithia when I was young and don't remember it well, but I'm looking forward to reading it again. I was going to do the Dystopian challenge too, but I'm kind of sick of that genre from the Banned Books challenge, so I'm giving that one a pass. Looking forward to The Giver though, that's where I first heard of that one.

For what it's worth: My class, and I have adored The Tale of Despareaux and Crispin. I didn't like The Giver, although one of my student teachers called it her favorite. I think Bud, Not Buddy is sophisticated for elementary age, and I've shockingly never read A Bridge to Terebithia. Then, they went ahead and made it a movie which I refuse to see before reading it. But, I know I'll have to gear up emotionally according to what everyone says...

Bellezza, I read Bridge to Terabithia as a child and I'm really looking forward to reading it again as I really don't remember it. I'm hearing all kinds of good things about Desperaux. Can't wait for that one!

Jroy, You should join this challenge! You were the first person I thought of when I saw this. It would be perfect for you. Bellezza (above) is also a teacher...you might enjoy her blog.

I'll probably have to join this one as well as I too love the YA books and, for some reason, the summer seems like the perfect time to read them. Probably because that's when I did most of my reading when I was that age.

You should do this one Carl. A really great list of books on the Newberry list. You're right...there's no time like the summer to read these.
